Who are we?

Tender Shoot Orphans Care

is a non-profit, charitable organisation whose main purpose is to nurture and empower orphans and vulnerable children by providing them with basic needs as they live with caregivers. According to WHO, Kenya has 3.6 million orphans of whom 2 million are orphaned by HIV/AIDS while the rest by other causes. Vulnerable children add to that number. These orphans and vulnerable children have no access to food, adequate housing, clean drinking water or an education. Some live with jobless single mothers and sick grandparents while others have both parents who are very poor and unable to sustain their families. Other homes are headed by siblings. The children are therefore exposed to challenges such as exploitation, child labour, abuse and other forms of suffering Tender shoot orphans care is continuously visiting homes out of concern for these suffering children by Haniel Njogu Muchiri and Nancy Wanjiru who have long experience working with and employing best practices in orphans and vulnerable children care in Kenya. The organisation seeks to ease the suffering of children by providing them with food, clean drinking water, sanitation, adequate shelter, clothing and beddings, medication as well as education while they live with their caregivers. We work in Gilgil and Naivasha Sub County in Nakuru County in Kenya’s Rift Valley. Currently the organisation has enrolled and is continuing to enrol orphans and vulnerable children in the programme, closely working with the families and caregivers to provide love, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual support. We train caregivers and the community on the needs of children, HIV/AIDS, and empower caregivers with enterprise development and farming skills in order to sustainably support themselves and the children. The charity is registered in Kenya by the Ministry of East Africa Community, Labour and social protection.
